The NiNES Peckham
I’ll try to repeat after you. was a new work by Eva Jiřička launched at The Performance Studio as part of an evening co organised with Czech Centre London.
Jiřička’s practice explores the understanding of others and the relationship between individuals, art and society. Her work considers the social dimensions of public space and the boundaries that shape interpersonal relationships.
The evening began with the launch of I’ll try to repeat after you., followed by a screening of selected video works by Jiřička and a conversation between the artist and Markus Vater.
At the time, Jiřička was also developing a long term project in collaboration with older people, exploring subjects directly affecting human life including finality, relationships, memory and social values.
ABOUT EVA JIŘIČKA
Eva Jiřička lives and works in Prague. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and in Vienna.
At the time of this event, selected solo exhibitions included Mr. Toman, Gallery 207, Prague, 2011; Eyes like Diamonds, with David Kellner and Adrien Tirtiaux, MeetFactory, Prague, 2009; and Moving Target, Gallery Mladých, Brno, 2008.
Jiřička had also undertaken international residencies at Townhouse Gallery in Cairo, Casa Masaccio in San Giovanni Valdarno, Italy, and BizArt in Shanghai.
IN CONVERSATION
Markus Vater
Markus Vater was born in Düsseldorf and studied at the Kunstakademie in Münster and Düsseldorf and at the Royal College of Art in London, graduating in 2000.
His diverse practice has been described as a poetic analysis of the systems that constitute meaning. At the time of the event, he was Tutor in Fine Art, Performance, at the Royal College of Art in London.
