ABOUT MARITA ISOBEL SOLBERG

Marita Isobel Solberg (born 1977, Tromsø, Norway)Marita was raised in Manndalen in Northern Norway, a special place where Sami, Kven and Norwegian cultures live side by side. She lives and works as a musician and visual artist with Tromsø as a base. Marita crosses artistic expressions. She works in the borderline between art, life and science, focusing mainly on sound, performance art and installation.

Experimenting with different medias in her work and interweaving elements from the surroundings. Solberg’s work is often site-specific and relational, reinforced by a strong performative tension. The works explore a world of challenge, strangeness, melancholy and desire sometimes with narrative passages or content, mixing with more symbolic and ritual elements.

Marita Isobel Solberg was an artist in residence at The Performance Studio in 2012. She presented a new performance especially devised for The Performance Studio
