WRO Art Centre: Video, Performance and Actions in Public Space

Curator Klio Krajewska presented a talk focusing on video, performance and the documentation of actions in public space in Poland since the 1980s.
Drawing on the archives of the WRO Art Centre in Wrocław, Krajewska introduced the exhibitions and events programme of the WRO Media Art Biennale and presented a selection of key works from the Centre’s archives.
The presentation considered the work of Józef Robakowski, Marek Janiak and Piotr Wyrzykowski in relation to a younger generation of artists including Małgorzata Goliszewska, Julia Kurek, Łukasz Prus Niewiadomski and the group Polen Performance.
The event formed part of the WRO on Tour programme, which included screenings and presentations of selected works from the WRO Biennale 2015.
ABOUT KLIO KRAJEWSKA
Klio Krajewska is a curator and consultant. At the time of this event, she regularly collaborated with the WRO Biennale as a curator and on the WRO exhibitions and performance programme.
Her recent curatorial projects included Recording Against Regimes in Cairo in 2013, an exhibition, conference and screening programme focused on art during periods of political transition, and Keep It Real in 2014 and 2015, a project exploring relationships between art and craft.
Krajewska also worked as a consultant in the fields of digital, urban and social innovation and was associated with the contemporary sound and digital art scene in Paris.

Since its inception in 1989, WRO has been dedicated to presenting art created using new media in Poland and to exploring emerging creative territories and critical perspectives around art, technology and society.
The WRO Media Art Biennale was described at the time as a major forum for new media art in Poland and one of the leading international art events in Central Europe.
